L’Alqueria LAB, to boost co-innovation in basketball

L’Alqueria del Basket goes one step further in the goal of boosting the sports and human talent of our youth through basketball. The facilities, which have already become an international reference due to the possibilities they offers in terms of infrastructure, also wants to keep growing to be an example of a commitment to innovation and research within our sport.

For this reason, a new R + D + I + CO department (Research + Development + Innovation + Collaborative) is born in the European basketball house under the name of L'Alqueria LAB, looking for the promotion of an ideal environment to boost the efficiency of our young people through co-innovation, that is, collaboration with different organizations with experience and prestige in this field to generate new ways of improvement and entrepreneurship.

L'Alqueria LAB will be, in short, a new way to open up to the world, to obtain new references and being aware of the new currents, testing and developing them, and generating new ones in collaboration with society in order to offer numerous possibilities, not only to the members of the largest base basketball facility on the continent, but also to the different lovers of our sport who want to improve in their respective fields.

The new department will not be oriented only to improve the efficiency on the court. Physiotherapy, medicine, communication, physical preparation, marketing, management... L'Alqueria del Basket, through the L'Alqueria LAB program, will be open to generating new knowledge in all areas surrounding basketball, becoming a pioneer, once again, in the international outlook. As well as sharing the way of working of a consolidated club at European level, which since 27th September 2017, with the opening of L'Alqueria, has also become a role model in terms of sports training and values, for young basketball teams. 

L’Alqueria LAB has already begun taking its first steps focusing its field of action on 4 fundamental pillars:

  • Research is the first of them. L’Alqueria LAB is part of the Nutrinext Project, after being selected by the AVI (Valencian Innovation Agency), and is currently participating in the direction of 3 doctorates.
  • Education is another, creating new activities, increasing the number of clinics and courses and working to bring the best speakers internationally.
  • Sharing knowledge is another important piece. For this a new international digital magazine, AdB Hoops, has also been promoted with the best experts from different fields of our sport.
  • Finally, alliances will be the key to success. The new department already has collaboration agreements that will boost joint work with the Valencian universities, which among other stuff, will result in the case of UV, the first Basketball Cathedra that is created nationwide.

The new department will be led by Pedro Cotolí, who was a 16-year physical trainer of the Valencia Basket men's team, also accumulating a great experience as a university teacher. Cotolí wanted to sum up the goal it assumes with the program: “L'Alqueria LAB is a tool to, through education and research, open the doors of our facility to the Society, and contribute to improve our sport by connecting all the areas involved in basketball, and also with the ambition to bring the best national and international talent to share the maximum experiences” he said.
