Great experience for the Taronja U16 teams in the Spanish Championship

The four Valencia Basket U16 teams close their participation in the Spanish Championship after enjoying a great experience to continue growing. The men's A team finished in 5th place, the women's A team finished 7th, while the men's and women's B teams finished in 12th and 13th position, respectively.

 

Valencia Basket A men completed a good group phase as first and undefeated, beating Real Betis Baloncesto, Canterbury School and UCAM Murcia. In the round of 16, Gonzalo Muinelo's team sealed their place in the quarterfinals with a great 93-78 victory over Casademont Zaragoza. Subsequently, a complicated crossing against Joventut Badalona left Valencia Basket at the gates of the semifinals. The team competed and came close in overtime, but ended up falling on the Penya's side by 70-74. In the game for the 5th place the taronja team closed its participation with a good taste defeating Basket Zentro Madrid by 77-65.

 

The U16 A female was second in their group with a 2-1, beating Joventut Badalona and CAB Estepona and losing to Baloncesto Torrelodones. In the round of 16 they gave no option to Baloncesto Adareva winning 88-37. However, in the quarterfinals the taronja girls could not beat Unicaja Andalucía, losing by 70-54. In the match for the 7th place Manolo Real's girls managed to finish with good sensations beating Ponce Valladolid 54-69. After two years in a row lifting the Spanish Championship, the Taronja give up the throne.

 

Regarding Valencia Basket's B teams, both with first year players, they completed a meritorious performance. On the men's side, Pascal Meurs' team finished the group stage in third position with a 1-2 record. Victory against Realejos and defeats against Real Madrid and Joventut Badalona. In the round of 16, the Taronja team fought, but could not defeat Zentro Basket Madrid by 85-73. Marcel Villalba's women's team followed the same path. 1-2 in the group stage with a win against Petrogold Al-Qázeres and two defeats against Movistar Estudiantes and Ponce Ginemédica Valladolid. In the round of 16 Valencia Basket lost against Baloncesto Torrelodones, ending its participation in the U16 tournament.
