Carot, Gómez and Ricart assess the silver medal at the U16M European Championship

The summer for the players of L'Alqueria del Basket with the Spanish national team could not have been more productive. Recently, the players Jorge Carot and Nicolás Gómez and the s&c coach Borja Ricart returned from North Macedonia with the silver medal of the U16 men's European Championship hanging around their necks.

 

Gómez confesses that "it has been an incredible experience in which we have had a great time, we have learned from our mistakes, since at the beginning we started badly". Carot added that "it has cost us a lot to get the medal, it has been a great effort. Everyone played their role. We are very happy with the silver". From the bench, Ricart recognizes that "it's a very different experience than as a player. We have the same feeling that it was hard to get where we have arrived. We would have been just as happy with silver, gold, bronze or no medal",


This team went from strength to strength. Carot recalls that "in the preparatory we started losing 5-3. From then on we changed the dynamics of the training. We focused more on the concepts we had to work on and little by little we saw results". In the final, the team was close to the gold medal and Gómez assures that they lived it "with a lot of adrenaline, trying to defend as much as possible, but they shot better. We had a bad run at the beginning and in the end we lost the game, but we were there".


A silver that means a lot, not only for the Spanish national team, but also for Valencia Basket. Carot believes that "a great job is being done in L'Alqueria from the coaches and training. That has helped almost all teams have won medals with players from L'Alqueria". But this work is not only done with the players, but also with the coaches. Ricart concluded that "our work is in the shadows and we help where we can. It is a pleasure to be able to go out, to live other experiences representing the club, it nourishes you in your day to day, it is as if it were a prize".
