Xavi Albert: “Our goal is that the boys improve in a higher competitive level”

Valencia Basket's LEB Silver project has already started to walk. After the players passed the relevant medical tests on Monday and Tuesday, the team has already started working on the court with an eye on the first preparation games of the season. Coach Xavi Albert analyzes this new challenge for both players and coaching staff.

 

Albert assured that he faces this project "with a lot of desire to start walking, to see how the boys come and to try this new adventure in a competition that we do not know but that we all face with a lot of desire". The objectives for this debut are clear: "The aim is the same as the last years in EBA League, trying a more demanding competition, but where the goal remains the same: that the boys improve, continue to develop and prepare themselves in a higher competitive level".


The bulk of the squad is made up of players trained in the youth academy and architects of the promotion to LEB Silver. They are Millán Jiménez, Guillem Ferrando, Alejandro Ortega, Alejandro Bellver, Freds Bagatskis, Diego Rivas, Rafa Vila and Juan Hierrezuelo. The coach explained that "it is the goal of the Club, to accommodate the boys who have been trained and who have been in the Club for a long time, but above all that they are in the team because they deserve it. And that they continue to progress, that they earn their place as it has been, competitively in the EBA league with last year's promotion. And that they continue to develop in the new season in LEB Silver. It is a pride for the Club and for all the categories that boys who have been developing with us for so many years have a place in LEB Silver and hopefully it will be nurtured by the following generations".

 

Regarding the new additions, Albert stated that "we incorporate players of an inside profile, with Gonzalo (Bressan) that we could see here in the promotion phase with Granada. I think he will give us more play in a position in which we lacked a lot of players in recent years. As well as the return of Alejandro Rivas and Oskars (Hernández), who comes from Gandía, and who I think will give us more presence, more centimeters, more kilos, more inside play, in a competition where it is necessary".

 

The twelfth piece will be for the U18 players. Albert, who arrives after having been coach of the U18 team, admitted that "it will be a very big leap for the U18 players, when they have room for minutes in the rotation. And hopefully they will. It is still a very demanding competition at the national level. The idea is that the senior players are prepared to help at the minimum that they have the possibility to do so in the proffesional ACB team. And the same goes for the players who are in the U18 team. We want them to get ready, to train, to have quality minutes training with the LEB Silver team in case it is necessary. There are injury problems, the season is very long. Hopefully they will have the possibility and earn the chance to have a place in the LEB Silver in competition as well".
