A historic gold medal in the boys’ category —the second achieved in the competition— and a well-earned silver in the girls’ category place the Valencian teams among the best in the country, with strong representation from Valencia Basket. The teams from the Valencian Community delivered an outstanding performance at the Spanish Regional Team Championships Planeta Mini 2026, held in the Catalan cities of Reus and Salou.


In the boys’ team, the Valencia Basket representatives included Mohamed Diop, Julen García, Daniel Gimeno, Nicolás Martínez and Álex Torregrosa. Together with the rest of the squad, they reached the final after finishing first in their group, defeating Galicia 83-44 in the quarterfinals and the Community of Madrid team 85-73 in the semifinals. A tightly contested final, decided in the final minutes of the sixth period, gave the Valencian side the long-awaited gold against Catalonia (72-64). This victory marks their second gold medal in this category.


As for the girls’ team, the Valencia Basket players involved were Shanel Durán, Sofia Higón, Emma Liceras and Julia Padial. The team advanced from the group stage as runners-up and secured a comfortable 77-54 win over Catalonia in the quarterfinals, followed by a 64-57 victory against Andalusia in the semifinals. In the final, the Madrid team defeated the Valencian side despite their efforts (56-85), securing second place and a well-deserved silver medal.
