De Larrea and Marí evaluate a learning season in LEB Plata

The Valencia Basket L'Horta Godella linked team has already finished its third season in LEB Plata. After finishing the regular league with a historic 5th place, the best classification of the affiliate since its promotion to the bronze category of Spanish basketball, the team coached by Tomás Lamas gave a lesson in mentality to overcome a round of 16 playoffs that were uphill and faced in the quarterfinals, elimination that could not overcome. Sergio de Larrea - 12th in scoring in the whole competition with almost 15 points per game - and Lucas Marí speak on behalf of a young team, which continues to grow and learn in a demanding league.

 

L'Horta Godella completed a round of 16 in which they started losing against Clínica Ponferrada SP away by 72-67, but then they turned the tie around at home by 84-72. In the quarterfinals they faced a powerful Class Basquet Sant Antoni, against whom they lost very narrowly at home by 64-65, but the Ibizan team won the second leg by 81-69.

 

For De Larrea “the season is very correct. We are all very proud of the work we have done. In the end the objectives have been met, we have been allowed to dream a little more and reach the quarterfinals, but in the end I think it represents a little of what the season has been, starting from the bottom in the mud and growing to the team we are now”. Marí highlighted what we have learned: “It has been a very good season in which we have learned a lot. It is the first year of senior and competing at this level is very good, it is very positive. Remontadas and very competitive games is what we take with us and very grateful for the learning”.

 

After two seasons competing in LEB Plata, the last one as a U18, De Larrea says that “it was the first year as a senior. It is always a year of challenge and discovering a new world. I think we have known both me and the team to the specifications or the level of the group. I value it as something very positive.” Marí, who has been in this competition for three years, analyzes that “I have noticed much more the time we have been competing in this league, physically and technically we have all improved a lot by the work of technification. We have all noticed an improvement compared to other years, especially in experience”.

 

This season Marí and De Larrea have also had first team dynamics and the latter has had the opportunity to make his debut: “It is a dream that any child would like to have. Very happy, especially grateful for the opportunities I have been given throughout the season. It's a bit hard work because you have to be in two dynamics in two totally different teams, but it's a challenge and we like challenges”.

 

Regarding the change of coach with the arrival of Tomás Lamas -after Xavi Albert became part of the coaching staff of the men's first team and now first coach-, Marí comments that “at the beginning it was a little more difficult because the dynamic was different from last year, but as we have been training and we have been playing together we have all adapted to the dynamic and we have played very well during the league, especially in the final part”.
