LEB Plata team starts the official competition

Valencia Basket LEB Silver team puts an end this weekend to a long preseason of 2 months, starting the official competition in L'Alqueria del Basket. Xavi Albert's squad makes its debut in the third division of men's basketball after an outstanding preparation with a 5/5 of victories in the friendly games played.

 

It was an atypical preseason, as Millán Jiménez, Guillem Ferrando and Gonzalo Bressan, and sometimes even Alejandro Bellver and Rafa Vila, spent a good part of this period with the ACB. All of them even played in official matches. In spite of everything, Albert assures that it wasn’t a disadvantage for LEB Plata team: "We have been delighted not to have the full group because of the space they are having in the first team, to learn from the game time they are getting. Also more U18 players are coming up with the LEB Plata. Lots of opportunities for young people”.

 

What's more, the Taronja team achieved a full house of wins in its preparation games. It started with a 49-92 win over Club Baloncesto Ilicitano, followed by a 78-50 win over FC Cartagena CB and a 78-83 win over La Roda. Then, Valencia Basket was proclaimed Valencian League champion with a great victory in the final against Club Bàsquet Alginet by 79-87. Xavi Albert's team closed the preseason with another victory, this time against Albacete Basket by 77-92.

 

Alejandro Ortega said that "we are just starting to get the team together and there is still a lot of work ahead. We have many U18 players, so we have to teach them a little. We won all the games, so for the moment we are doing quite well". The player repeats as captain and confesses that "it is a favor that my teammates are doing me, they know that I have always done it without any problem" and his job will always be "to help them in whatever they ask me".

 

Little by little, the team's identity is beginning to take shape. The coach explained that "something that has to define us is the will to make efforts, that youthful impetus, which drives us to have a high rhythm, a cheerful game, a space where the boys will improve. We want our game to be the most fun to watch and to be as competitive as possible".

 

Alejandro Bellver also added that what has to define the group is "the club's hallmark, the Endeavour, above all. I see the team with a lot of identity, we are ready to start the league and compete to the top". In addition, this debut year in LEB Plata has to be "another year of improvement, both individually and as a whole group and compete. It is no longer the victories or defeats, but to feel that we are making an effort and that it pays off".


The debut will be this Saturday in L'Alqueria del Basket against Mi Arquitecto CB Benicarló at 17:30h, in what will be the return of fans in the games of the taronja subsidiary. Xavi Albert admitted that they are "delighted that people can come to L'Alqueria to see the progress of our players".
