Seminar on Artificial Intelligence: “Landing elite technology on the field”

L'Alqueria del Basket is the home of basketball training, not only on the court, but also in the classroom. Last Saturday it held a new transversal seminar of the Basketball Chair, organised together with the University of Valencia. The topic was the "Artificial Intelligence. Trends and practical applications in sport". The aim of these talks is to offer resources and strategies in the field in question, always applied to training and elite sport.

 

The day began with Quique Alcántara, expert in innovation in sport and secretary of 4iVLCESPORT, with his presentation on Artificial Intelligence in Sport, the expert sought "to situate what AI is, what it is for, how it is being applied in sport and its relationship with data. I have been working for more than 30 years in R+D+I in sport and one of my obsessions has always been to transfer knowledge to society and the market".

 

Néstor Cervera, CEO of NeilTech, spoke next about AI algorithms and smart sensors for injury prevention in Sport. Cervera explained that his mission was to share "AI to transform the data we get through the 'wereable' in order to give a simple easy value to the technical team for decision making and sports injury prevention. Being able to use L'Alqueria del Basket as a dissemination to reach small clubs is the interesting thing. We land the technology that is in the elite on the field".

 

The next presentation was given by Javier Soriano, CEO of Blautic about Machine Learning applied to Sport with wearable data. Soriano analysed "the application of machine learning to the world of sport by managing data that we collect from 'wereables' or wearable devices worn by athletes during their physical activity. Using AI and the latest trends in mathematical algorithms that are being used in this world, we are able to extract the maximum value from each of the data we collect. We can personalise the tracking of movements or analyse the workload of athletes throughout the year, taking parameters such as muscle activity, lactate, HRV or biomechanical parameters. We are moving towards a knowledge society and we have to encourage this type of activities that try to disseminate how much and how well Valencia is doing in terms of generating added value and knowledge around many technologies that are trending worldwide.

 

The last presentation was given by Germán Sanchís, CEO of Sciling on Artificial Intelligence: Hype, reality and Sport. Then, the seminar ended with a round table where speakers and attendees could share opinions, thus closing a great day in which training and professional growth were the protagonists.
